Mr. Connery: Well well Tracey me laddie, black friday with rock bottom prices matched with an inadequate amount of sales shows a loss, not a profit. “Supposedly the day whose sales are so great..” Supposedly. Supposedly you just came out looking thick. Supposedly, probably, most likely..ah well, where were we on the categories Trebek?

@Slum: Umm… actually, the “black” in Black Friday is not negative at all — it’s about as positive as you can get. It refers to the fact that negative numbers on ledgers were written in red ink and positive numbers were written in black ink. When a company is “in the black,” it means that the company is making a profit. And the day after Thanksgiving is supposedly the day whose sales are so great that even companies that are hurting become “in the black,” hence the name.

Sorry, I’m sure you know that, but I’ve heard that shite from a lot of people who don’t know better in recent years, so I thought I’d get it “on the record.”
